Well here it is, once again we manage to pack the little place with enough black brushed back hair and converse to put hot topic out of business forever, thought its hardly surprising, with tonight’s inspiring line up , I'd be offended if the place wasn’t heaving like Waterloo at rush hour. Now usually at this point I would ramble about “oh the same-old same-old”, but rarely will I admit I cant actually say a bad word about the variation here tonight…. But I just did (don’t let that get out too quickly). First up are south England sextet CANTERBURY, providing us with what could only be described as forty minutes of synth pop brilliance.Jumping to stage like this has been waiting to happen for too long, the five piece outfit shake through new material, giving the eager crowd exactly what they paid for. These guys aren’t just together, distinct and catchy, they’re on fire! And purely dazzle the jam-packed venue with the hint of classic songs (Crowd favourite “rumours kill”).The Five some truly kick a** and are a definite must if you fancy a change from the regular “scream till you ' re red” matching cr * p that seems to be hitting the scene.A definite must listen, so what are you waiting for… check them out. (****) Next to hit the stage are Guildford/ Woking based screamo newcomers ' PRETTY WHEN YOU SCREAM ' .Blasting the stage with ordinary music quite obviously influenced by recent post hardcore legends, the feeling that the guys could be a lot tighter/ well rehearsed strikes my mind.Using the ir set to distribute a blend of screaming lyrics, melodic vocals and pulsation guitar, it all sounds good… but something just really doesn’t click, the crowd slowly dieing as the set continues.Whether they were on an off day or just t oo used to playing bigger venues beats me, but something just doesn’t work for the guys tonight, displaying a decent set of the ir works, it 's just a shame no one tonight really wants to know. A brave attempt to keep the pieces of screamo left lying in our lives alight, but maybe some more preparation is needed to get this band flying again. (**) After a brief interval we are once again blessed with the Hampshire boarder based Foursome FURTHEST DRIVE HOME.These guys are no strangers to plant, and if im honest I can see why no one ' s bored of them yet.Lifting the crowd with their catchy emo-injected pop rock, the guys truly kick arse tonight, blazing through crowd favourites such as “eyes wide shut” and “future full of jive”.The guys are truly out of this world, managing to bring the remains of the crowd back in, it is easy to see what all the hype is, and to think, even with connections to Drive-thru records they still find time to come and fill our little café, God bless them. The spark is here tonight and its name is Furthest drive home, I won 't even make a joke about if you haven’t heard them yet because you clearly are not very cool if you haven’t (haha!).A job well done boys, shame my request for a FREE E.P didn’t work. (****) A good night in all, proving the flame still glows here at Plantation, and where ever there are awesome bands getting their heads out of the books, there will be us to give them shows Much love Dan carter |
