HOORAY FOR ME

Tonight once again, we see the little café sell out for the second gig in a row, and to be completely honest I wouldn’t expect anything less, with a line-up as mental as this you can't help but wonder how anyone has anything better to do. Yes a lot of people outside are shouting and cursing due to the fact they can't get in, but those of us safe and warm inside certainly receive a treat.

As those lucky enough to get a ticket pile into the diminutive café, we are blessed straight away with Guildford old-timers HOORAY FOR ME.

These guys have been around since I was a little one (or sorry, an even littler one), and its nice to be able to see that the band you used to see every other Saturday down the community centre have blossomed into a hugely together, fine sounding punk band.

Describing themselves as a “three and a half piece” punk band, the boys give us the works here melodic lyrics, fast pacing riffs and an energy released that really gets things going tonight.

There are  a lot of punk bands going around, but these boys focus on a more intimate style of it, displaying a more emotional side (no, they're not emo) to their music.

Whether this is the most original thing since sliced bread is irrelevant, as the boys do what they do with style, energy, and many a laugh on the way.

What an ace way to start the night, if you haven’t checked them out (that should be a crime) yet then for goodness sake do, this is how its supposed to be done!

After a brief interval, the mood is completely changed as the melodic vocals are replaced  by brutal screams, rapid drums and profound guitars. Ladies and gentlemen these boys are THE COMANCHE CIPHER, and they mean business.

Appearing here again with open arms the boys play a brutal set of pure metal core, getting the crowd moving like there’s no tomorrow.

Showing a face of British metal core more influenced by those on the lines of the  U.S.  scene, at times you wonder how the boys are still playing little places like this. Their sound is pure and truly shows those amateurs in the scene just how it should be done.

CC are on fire, and they use this to just give give and give . Energy is released, horns are set and the place really does erupt.

great set from these guys, and the boys are a definite “must check them out”, if you fancy a change from the usual emo-core rubbish.

The next band need no introduction, as they’ve been here enough times, but I guess the best bit of late night TV is the repeats, and these guys are definitely no repeat performance. Once again, we're blessed by local legends WITHOUT THOUGHT.

Jumping to the stage like they never left, the boys embrace us with a half an hour of musical ecstasy, soaring through both old tracks ( ' With Any Arms'  /  'Perpetuity'  - note the ones I could sing along to) and a handful of new material.

Think melodic metal with an array of hardcore at time mixed with post hardcore, and you’ve got these guys.  Confusing I know, but in their scene these guys are probably one of the tightest sounding bands of the genre locally, and if you haven’t heard of them sort your life and go see them, to see these guys live is oh so much more than a treat!
